The Characters

Nephetiti

Nephetiti is an 8 year old girl born in Toronto, Ontario at Mount Sinai Hospital. She lives with her parents, her younger sister Kamei, and her grand-mother, Grand-mere Zuzu. Nephetiti’s parents both work outside of the home. Her father is a paediatrician and her mother is a chef who runs her own catering business. The couple along with Grand-mere Zuzu migrated to Canada from Zaire, now called the Congo. Although they both speak fluent English, their native tongue is French.

Nephetiti wears her hair in dreadlocks and is fascinated with trying different foods from other countries. She loves to help her mother prepare meals and has a knack of leaving a big mess behind her wherever she goes.

In mid-winter, her father accepted a new position just outside the city, at a hospital in Mississauga. He then moved his family to be closer to his job. On the first day at the new school Nephetiti meets Sweetie, who was sitting in the office for throwing a snowball. As Sweetie stared at her with your big beautiful eyes, she could not help herself and stuck out her tongue. As Sweetie`s eyes perked up with curiosity, Nephetiti then flashed a great big smile. The two became fast friends after finding out they were neighbours and made a pledge to be best friend forever.

Sweetie Sweetie Chalda Mali Gee

Sweetie Sweetie Chalda Mali Gee is an 8 year old girl, born in Mississauga, Ontario at Credit Valley Hospital. She lives with her father Papa Gee, and her mother. Her parents were born in New Delhi, Indian. She has no brother or sisters at this time.

Papa Gee

Sweetie's father, who is a Sikh, wears a turbin. He is very much a man of tradition and religious custom. Sometimes little Miss Sweetie, daddy’s little girl, likes to push the envelope and is quite adventurous. She has a passion for telling stories which may or may not be true. Telling lies is strictly against Papa Gee’s rules.

One day she was sitting in the principal’s office for throwing a snowball and meets another little girl named Nephetiti. Nephetiti was at the office registering at her new school. After a swift sticking out of the tongue by Nephetiti, followed by a big smile, the two became fast friends. They soon realized they were actually neighbours and pledged to be best friends forever.
